Leftovers From This Week

No cohesive theme here, friends, just a few leftovers from the week’s wanderings around the prairie.   The ice-laden fields merited attention a few times.   A great old tree.  And a few birds, probably Sandhill Cranes.    Too much junk on the desktop, time to move things along.

Farmhouse Sunset

it’s a farmhouse admired for a long time.   It rests on a beautiful piece of land just outside Taylor.  Area friends probably know its history.  It’s vacant now, with a No Trespassing sign on a tree out front.    These were taken last night as sunset neared.   Hopefully this beautiful structure will remain intact.   It would be sad to see it gone.  The barn is an added element.  The grain elevators in the distance are owned by friends.

Horses & Cows

A set of photographs taken this evening near Taylor, Texas.  Ice storm remnants hold on for a little longer.  Frigid temperatures continue through the week, but thankfully, with less chance for  the treacherous stuff.   Horses and cows, friends.

It’s Ice

These photographs were taken late this afternoon in areas around Granger and Taylor.   Be advised, friends, that is not snow you’re seeing, but very hard ice.   The first several are from fields and farms south of Granger, the last three from Taylor’s Murphy Park.  Driving conditions have been awful here, but not taking photos  is pesky, too!   Temperatures once again dip into the low-mid teens tonight.   It’s a cold week.

The Week’s Walks

Another set of photographs from walks this week, all taken in Taylor.  The pace is getting slower, but we keep moving.  And snapping photos along the way.   This post includes a squirrel.   They’re photographed a lot, not always shared, but the little guy toting that pizza slice was a delight.   Photo therapy, friends.

At Saint James in Taylor

Two homeless men are pictured outside the warming center tonight at Taylor’s Saint James Episcopal Church.  When this was taken the temperature was in the mid-20s, continuing to drop.  The warming center is overseen by the Taylor Center for Assistance  and Navigation (Taylor CAN), a group helping those in need.   Their work matters.  The church has served Taylor since the early-1890s.

Quiet Clouds

A somewhat peaceful  landscape seen earlier this evening while  in the Granger area.    The clouds were beginning to gather, with a  temperature around 60 degrees.    Much colder temperatures, combined with some level of moisture  are expected this weekend.   Right now, the forecast calls for a low of 10 degrees on Sunday.    That may not seem chilly to friends in other areas, but some folks here might have a different thought.
