This couple of photos has nothing to do with what I was actually covering this evening, but storms are interesting.   This was on the way home, about a mile from my house in Taylor.  That reflection at the bottom  of  the first photo is the hood of my car.   Through the years I’ve found that dogs don’t like this kind of weather, but sometimes us humans do.

Several years ago, my daughter-in-law wondered if I would take a magnolia bloom photo for her.   The years slipped by.  Each time the magnolias were in bloom, I’d diverted elsewhere.   Alas, the blooms faded away.   This year was different.   Spurred on my daily walks in Taylor, combined with an impending family visit, I remembered the request.   Here are a few photos taken at the first part of the week.   The color is nice, but I think the black and white treatment may do more justice.  Simple is good.

We spent some good time again today with our grandson, Cameron James Sharp.   He visited some Texas Longhorns in Taylor, and finished his Texas adventure wandering on the Georgetown square. 

We are fortunate this week to have our son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Cameron James Sharp, paying us a visit.   Allow me, if you don’t mind, a few photos of our sweet little guy, some with my huge Kermit, others on a rainy afternoon.  Like his father at that age (almost 3), Cameron will go to sleep very fast on a car ride, particularly with his pillow pal from Buc-ee’s. 

Once again this Memorial Day I attended an observance in Sun City, Texas.  Alas,  a morning of heavy rain made their Veterans Memorial Plaza a less-than-adequate option, but the folks at Sun City have a huge ballroom to conduct the event.   This year’s guest speaker was Texas Governor Greg Abbott.  One of my favorite subjects this time around was 93-year-old Nora Haines, a World War II veteran who was a member of the British Royal Navy.   In one of the photos here, she’s holding a photo of herself taken in her service days, 75 years ago.   Another interesting couple were husband-and-wife veterans Ken Gormley, 96, and his wife, Renie, 91.  Both were in World War II, he as a Navy man, she a member of the WAVES, and an aviation mechanic.   Also in attendance was 35-year-old Alan Babin, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, combat-injured in Iraq in 2003.    Even though indoors, it was a good observance.

Saturday was a good day.  I was fortunate to be able to document events related to our upcoming Memorial Day holiday.  My first stop was at CrossFit 355, where Team RWB held an intense, but quick competitive workout.   Among the participants were Georgetown Police Chief Wayne Nero and the city’s Fire Chief, John Sullivan.  Visit the link for Team RWB, but in a nutshell, it’s an outreach group for veterans and their families.   We have a local chapter here in Williamson County, Texas.   They’re a group dedicated to veterans.  Explains member Peg Fowler:  “We’re not asking for money.  We’re here for veterans.”   I like that.   A second visit was to Reunion Ranch, where the 5th Annual Heroes Night Out treated veterans, and active duty military and their families, to some free fun.   Note that the salute photo is the start of the Heroes Night Out event.   Yes, it’s been a good weekend.

After a few stressful days redoing a living room floor, I needed some photo therapy this afternoon.    I found just what was needed at Berry Springs Park & Preserve, in Georgetown.   There are many wonderful things about this swath of land, one of them being wildflowers.

Part of my Saturday last weekend was spent at Georgetown’s I.O.O.F. Cemetery, where a group gathered for a small ceremony to rededicate a Confederate Cross of Honor for Civil War veteran George Washington Glasscock, Jr.  Glasscock was the son of the city’s namesake.   Recently, the cemetery, the final resting place for a number of Civil War veterans, was vandalized, specifically, it seems, targeting these graves.  Richard Brewer, a San Antonio resident and ancestor to the Glasscock family, led an effort to rededicate a cross here.  A small group gathered here on this cloudy Saturday afternoon.  

This past week, for whatever reason, my cameras have led me to fields of corn the past few days.  It does seem to be a very good year for corn.   These few photos were taken on Wednesday and Thursday night.   I won’t promise to stop presenting corn images.  If the mood moves me that way, so be it.   Cows wandering into the frame don’t hurt, either.

We had a whole lot of rain in Central Texas, beginning late Wednesday and continuing through much of Thursday.   By day’s end, everything was looking wonderful, particularly in Jonah, Texas, a rural dot in the landscape I often pass on my way to (or from) Taylor.   The corn crops are looking grand this year.  The moon always looks good.  On the way home Thursday, a little before 8p.m.,  that lovely orb made itself known in the eastern sky.  I really wanted to get on home, but the scene begged for attention.  So I stopped for a few minutes to take it all in, in both color and monotone.   It’s all good.
