GEORGETOWN, TEXAS: Jonathan Andes, 32, from Round Rock, gives a determined effort to drag a 165-pound dummy 50 feet to simulate rescuing an unconscious person in this photo taken Saturday 5/22/2010. He was one of 88 hopefuls who showed up this weekend to take a timed agility exam with the hopes of landing a spot later this summer with the city of Georgetown Fire Department. Of the 88 potential recruits, only 11 will be hired, probably in July. In the fire department’s agility exam, recruits (who have all already been to fire academies in various areas) must do seven stations in nine minutes or less. They begin the process with having to climb 75 feet up a ladder truck. The ladder climb, however, is not part of the seven timed stations, but all going through the stations must do the climb first to prove they don’t have issues with heights. The agility exams were held all day Saturday and Sunday in the old Albertson’s store parking lot just off Austin Avenue and near Williams Drive. Photo by Andy Sharp.
