Yoga in Available Darkness
A while back, I had a challenge presented to me, photographing “Yoga Under the Stars” at Southwestern University’s Fountainwood Observatory, an event to raise money for the Georgetown Animal Shelter. Participants first took part in a yoga class, followed by star-gazing on a clear Texas night. The problem, of course, was an extreme absence of light. If this were still the days of film, I could’ve opened the back of the camera and not be concerned about fogging the film. The night’s answer: light painting with my trusty floodlight purchased for $10.95 at Lowe’s. Thank goodness yoga movements aren’t quick. The exposure for this photo was 20 seconds. Sure, there’s a bit of movement, but it’s an image, a pretty decent one, I think! Whatever is published will accompany an upcoming Williamson County Sun story by Amira Jensen.
