A New Heat Record For Central Texas

If you live in central Texas, perhaps you’ve noticed:   it’s hot.    Well folks, it’s beyond that.   Today the 1925 record of 69 consecutive days of 100 degree heat was broken.   As of Wednesday, August 24, 2011, we’re at 70 days and still going.   We’re reaching new boundaries because of a high pressure system engulfing the state.   Let’s hope for a break soon.  In the meantime, Walburg resident Craig Knapp didn’t let 103 degree heat deter him from his daily 11-mile bike ride.   The photo with this post shows Knapp taking a little breather under the shady pecan trees at Berry Springs Park & Preserve just east of Georgetown.   I admire his spirit and determination.  If we wait on perfect weather to exercise around here, we’ll be waiting a long dang time.   Pray for rain, maybe even a little tropical storm on the coast to move things along.
