100918 GEORGETOWN, TEXAS: Wilbur Wilson of Stamford, Texas wears a big smile in front of his chuck wagon, Break-Away, on Saturday 9/18/2010 during The Williamson Museum’s Up the Chisholm Trail Cattle Drive & Chuck Wagon Cook-off held at San Gabriel Park on Friday, September 17 and Saturday, September 18. Later in the day, his chuck wagon won Best Wagon in competition with several other vintage wagons. Wilson’s wagon, built by the Peter Schuttler Company, dates to the early 1900’s. A week earlier, the wagon won top prize in a similar competition in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This annual event included live music, a kid’s cook-off competition, a cowboy breakfast, cooking competitions for the chuck wagon entrants (using the old-fashioned cooking method over open fires), a Western art show, a Cowboy shootout and of course the Longhorn cattle drive along the San Gabriel River. A number of exhibitors were in attendance in the park. A Ranch Rodeo was also held Saturday evening. Photo by Andy Sharp.
