Thoughts & Images from Andy Sharp

Thank you, Mr. Jobs

I hadn’t planned a post on this, but this morning I had an assignment for the Austin American-Statesman to photograph five classes of fourth graders at Decker Elementary School as they worked on a group project.   It was touching to walk into the first classroom and see the kids huddled over a Macbook as they went about their task.    I’m old enough to remember the “good old days” of Underwood Five manual typewriters in newsrooms, and black and white film developed in D-76 (1 to 1, of course).   Then along came the first Apple computers, making that world more accessible to techno-challenged  guys like me.   When my newsroom switched to Macs, it opened new horizons.   No doubt, PCs have come a long way, too.   But give credit where it’s due.   Visionaries like Steve Jobs are rare and appreciated.
